Radar sensors are used primarily in object detection. The sensors that we stock can compute an object's speed and direction easily from ranges as low as 1 meter to 40 meters.
Short- and long-range radar sensors are used every day for a variety of different applications. Everything from weather forecasts to traffic control systems and onboard vehicle devices. More recently, radar sensor technology has been developed for autonomous cars and smart buildings.
We stock an extensive range of radar sensors that can assist with a variety of commercial and industrial applications. You can use our filters to narrow your search and find the specific equipment you need for your project. Browse by manufacturer, measurement range, mounting type, and output.

How do radar sensors work?
Radar sensors detect motion using microwave echo signals that convert into electrical signals. This allows the object's position, shape, characteristics, and motion trajectory to be deciphered.
The radar emits a signal and when these waves hit an object, they are reflected to the sensor. This signal contains information about the object which is then translated into data that identifies its proximity and position.
What type of radar sensors are available?
There are several different types of radar sensors available, depending on the desired application:
Doppler radar sensor
Doppler radar sensors have the same benefits as conventional radar technology, but they also have the bonus of increased elevation at greater distances. This makes them ideal for weather forecasting as there is the capability to identify air motions in storms and assess the severity of weather conditions.
Microwave radar sensor
Microwave radar sensors work by generating microwaves which reflect off objects in the vicinity and detect the proximity. This type of sensor is used in security technologies to detect intruders via cameras and motion detectors.
Banner radar sensor
Radar technology from Banner Engineering can detect stationary and moving objects such as vehicles and trains. This makes this type of radar sensor ideal for use in extreme weather conditions and transport applications like collision avoidance and traffic control.
Front radar sensor
Front radar sensors work by identifying radio waves that are reflected off vehicles or obstructions ahead. They are typically used in transport technology and mounted on the front of vehicles for efficient object detection.
What are the benefits of using a radar sensor?
Compared to other sensor technology like ultrasounds, radar sensor technology offers advantages for its respective applications. These include the following:
- Independent from the weather:Radar sensors' ability to detect proximity is not affected by light or darkness. It can also withstand extreme heat and cold conditions, both indoors and outdoors.
- Penetrate non-conducting materials:Presence detection can be completed through obstructions such as glass, plastic, rubber, and cardboard.
- Long detection range:Long-range radar sensors can detect proximity as far as 40m and above.
- Low maintenance and safe: Radar technology is safe to for both humans and animals.
